I remember when I initially read it, many years ago, I had to force myself to read the next book in the series. While it does not play a major role in the plot, it does come up more than several times and creates some tension and discomfort. The friendship between the two women takes a huge hit and one wonders if they are able to get past it.
There was some tension in the story in the second half but it just seemed like there was too much filler to make a two-hundred and forty page book into three-hundred and seventy pages. It’s pretty straightforward plot told in pretty straightforward first person prose.
